Day 1: Arrival in Kampala/Kasese

Your adventure begins with your arrival in Uganda’s vibrant capital, Kampala, or the scenic town of Kasese. Depending on your flight schedule, you will either settle into your accommodation in Kampala or Kasese. Take this day to rest, recover from your journey, and prepare for the exciting days ahead. In Kampala, you can explore the bustling city life, visit local markets, and enjoy Ugandan cuisine. If you arrive in Kasese, enjoy the serene views of the Rwenzori Mountains as you acclimate to the environment.

Day 2: Transfer to Rwenzori Mountains National Park

After a hearty breakfast, you’ll embark on a scenic drive to the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. The journey takes you through beautiful Ugandan countryside, offering glimpses of rural life and picturesque landscapes. Upon arrival at the park, you will meet your guides and porters who will assist you throughout the hike. After a briefing session, you’ll have time to organize your gear and prepare for the trek.

Day 3: Nyakalengija (1615m) to Nyabitaba Hut (2651m)

Your hiking adventure officially begins today. After breakfast, you’ll start your trek from Nyakalengija, the park’s headquarters. The trail leads you through thick forests, rich in flora and fauna. The climb is gradual, providing ample opportunities to acclimate to the altitude. As you ascend, you’ll pass through bamboo forests and cross several streams. By late afternoon, you’ll reach Nyabitaba Hut, your first overnight stop.

Day 4: Nyabitaba Hut to John Matte Hut (3414m)

Today’s hike takes you deeper into the Rwenzori Mountains. The trail becomes steeper and more challenging as you navigate rocky terrain and cross the Bujuku River. You’ll pass through the bamboo zone and enter the heather zone, characterized by giant lobelias and groundsels. The ascent continues until you reach John Matte Hut, situated in a beautiful valley.

Day 5: John Matte Hut to Bujuku Hut (3962m)

The trek from John Matte Hut to Bujuku Hut is one of the most scenic parts of the journey. You’ll traverse the Bigo Bog, a vast wetland area, using wooden boardwalks. The trail then leads you to the beautiful Lake Bujuku, nestled between towering peaks. The path becomes more rugged as you approach Bujuku Hut, which offers spectacular views of Mount Stanley and Mount Speke.

Day 6: Bujuku Hut to Elena Hut (4541m)

Today’s hike is one of the most challenging and rewarding segments. The trail ascends steeply through a rocky landscape to reach the Elena Hut. This part of the trek offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Elena Hut serves as the base camp for climbers aiming to summit Margherita Peak, the highest point of the Rwenzoris.

Day 7: Elena Hut to Margherita Peak (5109m) and Descend to Kitandara Hut (4023m)

Day 8: Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman Hut (3260m)

From here, you will begin a long descent to Guy Yeoman Hut. The landscape changes dramatically as you move from alpine zones to dense forests.

Day 9: Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyakalengija and Return to Kampala/Kasese

The final day of your hiking safari is a descent back to Nyakalengija. The trail passes through lush forests and follows the Mubuku River.
