Day 1: Arrival in Nyungwe National Park – Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
This 2-Day Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trekking tour, begins with an early morning transfer from Kigali or another nearby location. The drive to Nyungwe National Park is expected to take 5-6 hours, passing through Rwanda’s scenic countryside, rolling hills, and tea plantations. Along the way, you will stop for a brief break and enjoy the picturesque views. On arrival at the park headquarters, you will meet your guide and receive an orientation about the day’s activities. The first highlight of the safari is chimpanzee trekking. Joined by an informed guide, you will enter the dense rainforest in search of these fascinating primates. The trek can take anywhere from 1 to 4 hours, depending on the location of the chimpanzees. Once you find them, you will spend an hour seeing their behaviour, interactions, and daily activities.

Depending on your interests and fitness level, you can choose from many trails, such as the Igishigishigi Trail, Isumo Waterfall Trail, or Kamiranzovu Marsh Trail. Each trail gives unique sights, from cascading waterfalls to sparse orchids and bird species. Your guide will provide awareness of the park’s flora and fauna, as well as its conservation efforts.
After the nature walk, transfer back to the lodge for lunch. Following lunch, you will begin your drive back to Kigali or your next destination. The journey back offers another opportunity to admire Rwanda’s stunning landscapes.
