Determinants of Safari Prices in Uganda

Determinants of the Safari Price in Uganda: Travellers planning a safari in Uganda, whether for tourism or business purposes, are advised to understand the cost structure and key elements that determine the success of any given safari.  Although some other factors are also responsible for determining the cost of a given safari, such as the number of people and the time of travel, among others. The cost varies depending on transportation, accommodation, and the number of activities involved in the travel package, according to the traveller’s choice, such as gorilla trekking and chimpanzee trekking, among others.

Determinants of Safari Prices in Uganda

Transport costs

Generally, Uganda’s transport fares are a little cheaper considering the distance covered, and this is influenced by the location of the destinations selected in your tour package. Uganda’s destinations that are a little far away from the capital, Kampala, such as Kidepo Valley National Park, Mgahinga National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Rwenzori Mountains National Park, Semliki National Park, and others, all call for relatively higher transport fares, especially for travelers who prefer using road transport.

These costs include taxes, safari drivers, fuel, pickups and drop-offs, guides, maintenance for wear and tear, and en-route meals, among others. However, travellers who are on a tight schedule and those who cannot travel long distances on the road may go for a flight to access those destinations at a much higher cost since this involves securing a flight ticket, fuel, a safari driver, vehicle maintenance, guides, en-route meals, and others.

Purpose

Following the determinants of safari prices in Uganda, the safari cost will focus mainly on the purpose of your call or visit: A business traveller is mainly subjected to a high budget, which entails primarily transport, office, and luxury accommodation, while a tourist’s budget is between medium and high, depending on the package of preference, such as guided and private tours.

Visitors may be subjected to primate trekking permits, transport, accommodation, and others; a backpacker whose budget is always low is subjected to local food, public transport, and hostels; while expatriates on projects with a long-term stay may opt for a high budget with rental housing, education, a vehicle, and other utilities.

Accommodation

Currently, Uganda is transforming into the modern concept of development, uncovering both ancient and contemporary styles in its luxury lodges across the country. The country is set to redefine opulence, offering an outstanding blend of modern tranquillity and comfort with deep respect for sustainable tourism in terms of surroundings and the local people. Uganda, therefore, offers a mix of accommodations, from luxury to mid-range to budget options. However, this comes at a cost, considering the traveller’s level of comfort.

Sample Cost  Per Day

Budget: US$60-US$150

Mid-range US$180-US$300

Luxury: US$300-US$800+

Activities

Following the determinants of safari prices in Uganda, the country offers a wide range of adventure safaris, including luxury, midrange, and budget safaris that cater to all travellers. Luxury safaris are relatively more costly compared to affordable tours, with activities such as gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, photography, game drives, predator tracking, sport fishing, game viewing, hiking, and boat launches, among others.

On the other hand, budget tours have less costly activities, such as nature walks, bird watching, landscape viewing, city tours, local community visits, nightlife experiences, food experiences, and others. However, the more the activities, the more costs are incurred.

Group vs. private safaris

Private safaris are strictly exclusive and costly since the package is crafted and tailored to the traveller’s interests. On the other hand, group safaris stand out to cater to individual differences since they are more affordable because costs are shared among members, and vice versa.

Time of the year

During the dry season, which occurs in the dry months of the year that run from June to September and December to February, service providers tend to hike the prices, such as accommodation rates, due to the high peak season demands that lead to high crowds.

Number of People

Group tours, such as family groups, corporate companies, and organizations, tend to save, since some package components are equally shared, such as transport and accommodation, among others, compared to a single traveller or backpacker who foots the bill single-handedly.

Length of the Safari

The duration of the safari is also one of the key factors that determines the cost of a given safari. The longer the safari in terms of days, the higher the cost, and the shorter the safari, the lower the price. Therefore, the more days at the lodge, the more costs are applied, and vice versa.

Uganda, therefore, provides both luxury and affordable safari experiences across its diverse destinations, such as Rwenzori, Bwindi, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Kibale National Park, and many others.

More still, the cost depends on one’s travel budget based on activities such as gorilla trekking and chimpanzee trekking, whose permits are the leading cost drivers in this aspect. Others include accommodation, transportation, and activities, among others
