Why Some Gorilla Families are Easier to Track than Others?

Why Some Gorilla Families Are Easier to Track than Others: Since these gentle giants are also wild in nature within their wilderness, they typically remain wild and free to roam from one place to another in search of food sources, shelter, and protection; hence, making it hard to tell and determine their movements. This means that they always cover long distances daily.

More still, some gorillas tend to move far away to hideout places that are at times hard to access and vice versa. This reveals why this article is important to give depth to this conception.

Why Some Gorilla Families Are Easier to Track than Others

Rushegura Gorilla Family

Considering the fact as to why some gorilla families are easier to track than others? The Rushegura gorilla family from the Buhoma sector is one of the groups that takes little time to get accessed. It is famously referred to as the R-Group due to its strategic location as the park’s starting point in the Buhoma sector of Bwindi. Trekkers who wish not to trek long distances have found it easier to do gorilla trekking than with other gorilla families in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

However, in some months, this Rushegura gorilla family tends to extend further, making it a little taxing to access it like other gorilla families. Therefore, this means that it’s not a guarantee that travelers organizing to book the Rushegura family will find it easier to trek. However, the Rushegura gorilla family, being the easiest gorilla family, has always captured the attention of several visitors; hence, those who book pastimes end up booking gorilla families in other sectors of Bwindi, such as Rushaga, Ruhija, and Nkuringo, respectively.

It is advisable for travellers planning to do gorilla safaris in Bwindi to book gorilla permits in sectors where they book their accommodation in order to have easier access to the park information centers during gorilla trekking excursions.

If you fail to book your lodge near the tracking sector, this will call for long driving sessions, and visitors will end up raising complaints about the long distance covered. Take a case: you cannot book your accommodation in Rushaga, yet your tracking sector is in Buhoma, and vice versa.

Where In Uganda Can I Track Mountain Gorillas?

Uganda is one of the few countries in Africa, if not globally, to host the endangered mountain gorillas. This has attracted many visitors from across the world to come and bear witness to this magical experience through trekking with these mountain gorillas in their natural habitats.

Mgahinga National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park host over 24 gorilla families, 23 of which reside in Bwindi alone and one in Mgahinga National Park, meaning Bwindi alone boasts over 459 mountain gorillas, widely distributed in the four sectors that make up Bwindi, and these include Nkuringo, Ruhija, Buhoma, and Rushaga, contributing to 53% of the world’s remaining gorilla population.

The Buhoma sector alone has 6 gorilla families, and these include Binyindo, Katwe, Habiyanja, Rushegura, Mubare, and Muyambi. The Rushaga sector is one of the outstanding gorilla sectors in Bwindi, which is situated in the southern part of the park. This sector has the highest number of gorilla families compared to any other sector within Bwindi, totaling over 9 gorilla families; these include Bikingi, Mishaya, Busingye, Kutu, Kahungye, Bweza, Mucunguzi, Nshongi, Tindatine, Kahungye, and Rwigye, respectively.

Gorilla Families in Ruhija

Moreover, the Ruhija sector has 5 gorilla families, such as Bitakura, Oruzogo, Kyagulira A, Kyagulira B, and Mukiza. Lastly, the Nkuringo sector has 4 gorilla families that are open to visitors, and these include Bushaho, Posho, Nkuringo, and Christmas.

On this note, travellers planning to do gorilla safaris in Bwindi are advised to link up with a tour agency such as Nakra Safaris to seek advice when reserving gorilla trekking permits and lodging options for a particular gorilla family reserved.

We therefore highly anticipate questions like, “Why did you book me a hard-to-trek group or a distant gorilla family?” This has been clearly digested, considering what has been discussed above. However, travellers planning for a gorilla trekking safari in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park should kindly be aware that gorilla permits are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Therefore, it is advisable to book your gorilla trekking permit about 4 to 5 months in advance when there is still room for choice selection. However, visitors should take note that the gorilla trekking experiences in both Uganda and Rwanda may sometimes get a little challenging; therefore, they may require a certain level of fitness, especially for gorilla trekkers.
